Logan film

Logan is an upcoming American post-apocalyptic
superhero-drama film based on the Marvel Comics character Wolverine. It is
intended to be the tenth installment in the X-Men film series, as well as the
third and final Wolverine solo film. It is loosely based on the comic book
series Old Man Logan by Mark Millar. Directed by James Mangold, the film stars
Hugh Jackman, Patrick Stewart, Dafne Keen, Boyd Holbrook, Richard E. Grant, and
Stephen Merchant. The film also marks Jackman's final performance as the
titular character after appearing in every main entry in the X-Men series to
date. It is scheduled to be released on March 3, 2017, in IMAX and premium
large formats.

Synopsis
Set in the year 2024, Logan's healing abilities are slowly
fading away, and Professor Charles Xavier has Alzheimer's disease causing him
to forget. X-Men have lost when Nathaniel Essex and his corporation has left
the world in ruins. Logan must defeat Essex with the help of a young girl named
Laura Kinney, "a female clone of Wolverine".

Cast
Hugh Jackman as James Howlett / Logan / Wolverine: A
physically enhanced mutant with accelerated healing, animal-like senses and
instincts, and an adamantium-laced skeleton with retractable, blade-like claws.
Patrick Stewart as Charles Xavier / Professor X: A mutant
who is the world's most powerful telepath, and founder and former leader of the
X-Men.
Dafne Keen as Laura Kinney / X-23: A young mutant who is the
female clone of Wolverine, created from his DNA. Sienna Novikov served as
Keen's stunt double.
Boyd Holbrook as Donald Pierce: A relentless, calculating
and intense head of security for a global enterprise, and leader of the
Reavers.
Richard E. Grant as Dr. Zander Rice: Surgical head of the
project Transigen, which created X-23.
Stephen Merchant as Caliban: A mutant who helps Logan with
taking care of Charles Xavier.
Additionally, Eriq La Salle, Elise Neal and Elizabeth
Rodriguez have been cast in unspecified roles. In the commentary to X-Men:
Apocalypse, Bryan Singer confirmed that Nathaniel Essex / Mister Sinister will
make his first on-screen appearance in the film.

Production
By November 2013, 20th Century Fox had begun negotiations
for another solo film starring Wolverine. James Mangold was in negotiations to
write the treatment for the film with Lauren Shuler Donner returning to
produce. Mangold said the sequel would be inspired by other Wolverine stories
from the comic books and it would be made after X-Men: Apocalypse. Hugh Jackman
is set to reprise his role as Wolverine, for one final time. David James Kelly
was hired to write the script for the film. Following the film's announcement,
Jackman took to his Twitter page and asked what fans would like to see in his final
Wolverine appearance. Following the suggestions of Twitter users, Jackman thanked
his fans for their input. As of August of 2015, Liev Schrieber was in talks to
reprise his role as Victor Creed / Sabretooth.

In February 2015, Patrick Stewart confirmed his involvement
in the film while stating that he would not be featured in X-Men: Apocalypse.
Jackman revealed in February 2015 that he wanted to play the character until he
dies. Following that news, on March 28, 2015, Jackman posted on his Instagram,
"Wolverine… One Last Time." He also hinted at the film being an
adaptation of the Old Man Logan comic storyline, which was confirmed by the story's
writer, Mark Millar. In August 2015, Stewart revealed that he would have a significant
role in the film. In January 2016, Jackman confirmed that a screenplay was
close to completion, but did not know when filming would begin. In February
2016, Liev Schreiber, who portrayed Victor Creed / Sabretooth in X-Men Origins:
Wolverine said that he was in talks to reprise his role in the sequel. By April
2016, Boyd Holbrook was cast in the film to play an unnamed relentless and
intense head of security for a global corporation, while Richard E. Grant was
revealed to have been cast as an as-of-yet unnamed mad scientist. In the same
month, Simon Kinberg stated that the film would be set in the future. Towards
the end of the month, Stephen Merchant was cast in an unspecified role. In May
2016, Eriq La Salle and Elise Neal were cast in unspecified roles.

Kinberg says the film "takes place in the future, and
as you and others have reported, it is an R-rated movie. It’s violent, it’s
kind of like a western in its tone. It’s just a very cool, different film."

Logan takes place in the new timeline established after the
events of X-Men: Days of Future Past.

Filming
In March 2015, Mangold anticipated filming would start
"early next year.” On May 9, 2016, Kinberg said filming had begun. Also in
May, Elizabeth Rodriguez was in negotiations to join the cast. On August 19th,
2016, filming for Logan wrapped.

Release

The film is scheduled to be released on March 3, 2017. The
title Logan was announced by Jackman on October 5, 2016.
